John Ryan: All I can do is apologise

THERE’S no denying it, the performances in the last two home games have been appalling.

The Derby County game was even overshadowed by Tuesday’s defeat to Millwall.

The three goals were all down to defensive mistakes and there was not a scoring chance at the other end until Fabien Robert just failed to connect with a Tommy Spurr cross in the closing stages.

It was so disappointing after some quality performances of late to see the last two games.

Perhaps the tough schedule of two games a week, Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday-Tuesday, has taken its toll on the players.

It does not get any easier at Southampton on Saturday but perhaps the players can go there more relaxed,

Looking at the way they are playing and flying at the moment, you might think we have not got a hope in hell of getting a result.

However, in this situation we could confound the bookies again and pick up a great result.

In reality we are now in a league of four with one club able to escape the drop, namely Coventry City, Portsmouth, ourselves and Bristol City, who really are in freefall.

One will stay up from those four.

Hope springs eternal and we still have plenty of games from which to take points.

But the endeavour and interest has got to be there, starting on Saturday.

All I can do is apologise to the fans for our showing on Tuesday night which was totally devoid of any entertainment value and commitment by Doncaster Rovers.

Let’s just put these two results down to a blip.

Hopefully things will get better at Southampton and then Crystal Palace on Tuesday, before we entertain Birmingham next Friday.

Keep the faith.
