THE Dons have no excuses for underestimating today’s Challenge Cup third round opponents Sharlston Rovers, according to head coach Tony Miller.

Miller has told his men exactly what to expect from the Pennine League Premier Division amateurs - and it will have come as no surprise to several members of the Doncaster squad.

Miller said: “A few of our lads are mates with the Sharlston players so they know exactly what to expect.

“They’ve got a good coach in Gordy Long and I’ve coached some on their lads in the past so we know what they’re all about.

“They’re a big physical side - one of the top amateur teams in the country - and they’ll come to the Keepmoat and give it a right go.

“We need to make sure we play smart and don’t get drawn into a forwards battle.

“Games like this are a bit of a no-win situation for us but it’s great for the amateurs to get the chance to take on the professionals.

“The Challenge Cup is the best competition about and, of course, there’s the carrot of facing a Super League team in the next round.”

Doncaster were brought back down to earth with a bump at Barrow on Sunday, following their comfortable opening day win over Whitehaven, as the hosts ran out deserved 25-8 winners at Craven Park.

Tom Hodson touched down for Doncaster either side of the break but Barrow had the physical edge and scored through Liam Campbell, Chris Larkin, Aaron Low and Darren Holt.

Holt added four conversions and kicked a long range drop goal for good measure.

Miller said: “I thought we did well defensively but with the ball we made far too many mistakes.

“I don’t think the score was a true reflection, and I thought we did enough to deserve a bonus point, but we have to take it on the chin and concentrate on this weekend.”

n Supporters are reminded that 2012 season passes are not valid for today’s cup game (3pm).

Tickets are available from the Keepmoat Stadium.
