THE English Bowling Federations Indoor National Championships, one of the highlights of the bowling calendar, is being staged in Newark next week (April 23-29), when more than four hundred bowlers from up and down the country, and their supporters, will converge on the town.

For seven days the English Bowling Federation will take over the eight rink green at the Newark Indoor Bowls Club, and competitions will run for twelve hours a day.

The event will be officially opened by the Chairman of Newark and Sherwood District Council, Councillor Keith Sheppard and the Mayor of Newark Councillor Bryan Richardson on Monday morning (23/04/12).

Overseeing this year’s matches will be the English Bowling Federations President Mick Warriner, who as a former Nottinghamshire County President is no stranger to the Newark club. He will be ably supported by the English Women’s Bowling Federation President Margaret McManemy from South Shields in Durham.

Among the highlights of this year’s bowling is expected to be the Men’s Singles competition which this year is wide open but promising fierce competition, and the Men’s and Women’s Under 25’s Singles showcasing the sports emerging talent. All the players in all the disciplines have already qualified as their County Champions and will compete in Newark to hopefully become National Champions.

The English Bowling Federations Chairman John Dickenson said: “We are very proud to be able to use the Newark club for this flagship event, where the facilities together with the co-operation of its members are second to none. Please come along and see top quality sport, and it’s all free as there is no entrance fee to watch the National Federation Championships.”

Competitions start on Monday morning (April 23) with the Harry Carver Trophy for the Women’s County teams, and close on Sunday (April 29) with the Eversley and Derbyshire Trophy Team finals.
