Doncaster Rovers: ‘Queue for Manchester United ace will be a long one’

Paul Dickov says Rovers would be taking their place in a long queue of suitors if they were to firm up their interest in Manchester United midfielder Nick Powell.

Chairman John Ryan previously confirmed Rovers’ desire to loan the 19-year-old.

Dickov refused to be drawn into a similar statement of intent and insisted no move had yet been made for Powell who joined United in a £6m deal from Crewe last summer.

“I’ve not spoken to David Moyes since he took the job at Old Trafford,” Dickov said.

“If Nick Powell is a player we would like here, I’m sure there are ten Premier League clubs and another 20 Championship clubs that would want him as well.

“But, without naming names, that’s the quality of player we’re looking to sign.”

Dickov was also noncommittal on interest in Manchester City striker John Guidetti but admitted a liking for the Swede.

Guidetti looked likely to join Sunderland after his agent Roberto De Fanti became the Black Cats’ director of football.

But City are reportedly reluctant to loan the hotshot to a Premier League rival.

Dickov said: “John is somebody I know, I’ve watched him a lot. Obviously I’ve got close links at City.

“At this time I think it would be disrespectful to talk about players who are contracted at clubs.”

Dickov did confirm that he has not made a move for former Rovers loanee Iain Hume.

“Iain is a player I like, he’s a little bundle of energy but there’s been no contact with him or his agent,” Dickov said.
