A deal to bring former hero Matt Sparrow back to Glanford Park is unlikely, Scunthorpe United manager Brian Laws has admitted.
Sparrow’s short-term contract at Crawley Town has expired, and the midfielder - who spent more than ten years at Scunthorpe - is currently without a club.
Sparrow agreed a two-year deal with Crawley, but the deal broke down over wages - so it seems unlikely that United, after their relegation to League Two, will be able to offer the winger sufficient terms.
“I’m a little bit disappointed but that’s football,” Sparrow said.
Laws added: “Of course I’d be interested, but I really don’t think Matt would be interested in what we’ve got to offer.
“We’re in a different league and he’s still good enough to be in League One.”
