Bristol Academy Women inflicted more misery on to Doncaster Rovers Belles with a 3-1 win in the FAWSL last night.

The Doncaster club have suffered a number of setbacks already this season and were keen to get their first three points on the board against the South West outfit.

However, their lengthy trip to the Stoke Gifford Stadium saw Natasha Harding fire past Nicola Hobbs, who had earlier expertly denied Nikki Watts, in the 24th minute before Lucy Staniforth doubled their lead.

The Belles produced a strong display in the second half and were worthy of their goal when Lyndsey Cunningham’s cross was diverted into the Bristol net by defender Jemma Rose for 2-1.

However, just as the Doncaster club were building momentum and testing Academy shot-stopper Siobhan Chamberlain before Jess Sigsworth’s header was cleared off the line, Watts struck the killer blow for 3-1 after Hobbs had saved Harding’s initial effort.

That win sent Bristol to second in the league. Doncaster remain bottom.

The Belles are next in league action against in-form Liverpool Ladies on Wednesday. Kick-off is 7.45pm at the Keepmoat Stadium.
