We’re not getting excited - Brown

Having established a seven- point cushion in the automatic promotion places all the talk now is of just when Rovers will cross the finishing line.

That could be on Saturday, should two wins this week be coupled with results in their favour elsewhere.

Relying only on themselves, Rovers know three wins from the last four will guarantee passage to the Championship.

And in that case, only Sheffield United could beat them to the League One title and would have to pick up maximum points to do so.

Exciting times for supporters and statisticians alike.

But no one inside the Rovers camp is anything but focused according to Chris Brown.

And the striker insists the only thing in their sights right now is tonight’s visitors to the Keepmoat, Carlisle United.

“All it is right now is an almost thing,” Brown said.

“Nearly winning promotion means absolutely nothing until it’s not nearly but it’s certain.

“We’ve still got to turn up and get the job done.

“If we don’t turn up and compete tonight, other teams can cut the points gap and we could be back to square one.

“Everything can change in one game.

“If we lose and the chasing teams win then we’re looking over our shoulders again.

“Bournemouth and Yeovil are both flying and they are definitely ready to go above us.

“A two-game turnaround and we could be out of the top two.

“We’ve just got to keep doing our own thing and concentrate on the next hurdle.

“We’ve got to be on our game against Carlisle because they’ve got plenty of legs in midfield and a lot of energy.

The towering striker has been one of Rovers’ most reliable players this season, particularly as the promotion race has intensified in recent weeks.

Brown was central to the impressive performances in the last two games against Swindon and Tranmere, largely operating as a lone forward.

The 28-year-old says that while the squad is not getting excited, they are thoroughly enjoying the current vein of form.

He said: “We just can’t wait for the games to come.

“I think everyone is enjoying it.

“The last two performances have been brilliant and when you’re playing like that you can’t wait to get out there.

“We’re top of the league as well so you’re always going to enjoy that.

“With that confidence and enjoyment will come the right performances.

“It’s brilliant to be playing in a team like this with so many hard working lads.

“We let ourselves down a bit at Coventry with the first half performance but we just knew we had to respond in the right way.

“The Swindon game was always going to be massive, particularly with everyone else watching on through the TV.

“We deserved to win that one, we got a clean sheet and that will have sent out a big message.”

Brown says the secret to Rovers’ success this season is their never-say-die attitude plus the determination of all players to muck in for each other.

“A lot of it has been down to us not knowing when we’re beaten,” Brown said.

“I don’t know how many goals we’ve scored in the last five minutes, and important goals as well, but it’ll definitely be a lot.

“We’re also very difficult to break down and beat and that’s something we’ve focussed on.

“Everyone is willing to work and cover in area.

“Getting back and defending is something I’ve always enjoyed because it’s doing a job for the team.

“Plus you don’t want to be getting a rollicking from Rob Jones if you’re not pulling your weight,” he joked.
