Seventh successive defeat piles on agony for sick Knights coach

Under-the-weather Doncaster Knights’ team boss Clive Griffiths had been hoping a Championship win at Bedford would prove the perfect tonic.

But the Welshman, who had decided against travelling on the team bus due to a bad head cold, felt even worse on the drive back home after seeing his side slump to a seventh successive Championship defeat.

For the second game in succession Knights surrendered a match-winning lead at the death with Bedford snatching a dramatic 35-29 victory at Goldington Road.

“As was the case against Rotherham last week, individual errors cost us the game ,” said a croaky Griffiths yesterday. “I can’t control them but at the end of the day I will still take full responsibility because I picked the team.”

Griffiths kept faith with the same starting line-up on duty in the 23-21 defeat against Titans and was rewarded with an impressive first-half display.

But even though his side led 23-9 at the break he admitted he felt the game still had to be won. It is always a game of two halves at Bedford because of the slope,” he said.
