Rovers spirit priceless, says Dickov

Paul Dickov was full of praise for the ‘money can’t buy’ character his side showed in coming back from two goals down to draw at Oldham on Saturday.

Rovers looked to be heading for a first defeat in five after Jabo Ibehre and George Elokobi put controversy-hit Oldham two goals up.

But the sending off of former Rovers loanee Joe Mills opened the door for Doncaster and Nathan Tyson and James Coppinger struck to ensure a share of the spoils.

“We know we’ve got good players in the team, people are technically good, can pass the ball and people that can change a game,” Dickov told the Star.

“But you can’t buy and put into players the attitude and desire they showed in that game. It doesn’t matter whether it’s against ten men or not.

“When Sheffield United went down to ten men, we couldn’t get back into the game. It shows we’re progressing and learning which we want to do.

“It’s also another game where we’ve not been beaten, which breeds confidence.”

The draw at Boundary Park stretched Rovers’ unbeaten run to five matches and their unbeaten away record to nine.

It came despite arguably their worst performance in either of those impressive runs. And Dickov admitted he feared a drop off in performance was coming.

He said: “Even before the game I was wary because we’ve been at our worst when we’ve been at our best.

“I think we maybe saw that first half.”

Dickov revealed progress has been made in his pursuit of former Manchester City midfielder and Ivory Coast international Abdul Razak.

He said: “Conversations have been had and I’m hopeful, without getting too far ahead, that he will be our player.

“When that is, we don’t know because there’s international clearance, work permits and things like that.

“If we can manage to do, it will be a real coup for us because he’s a top, top player.”
