New signing Jack Walton says he immediately bought into Paul Cooke’s vision for Doncaster RLFC.

Utility man Walton is Dons’ 11th recruit of the close season after joining from Wakefield Trinity Wildcats’ academy.

The majority of those new signings have been young players with their whole careers ahead of them, as Doncaster build for the future.

And it is an ethos which naturally appeals to the 19-year-old.

“I came down and spoke to Paul Cooke and he told me about his plans over the next couple of years at the club and I wanted to be a part of it,” said Walton.

“Paul’s planned to bring the average age of the squad right down this season to build a squad really capable of challenging two or three years down the line.”

He added: “I enjoyed my time at Wakefield and developed there and I got a good opportunity to come down to Doncaster and I felt that was the best career path for me.

“My best position is probably in the second row but I’ve also played in the front row and at centre.

“I’ve got a good work ethic, I’m a hard grafter and I get along with all the boys.

“I think they enjoy me being here and I enjoy being here with them.”

Doncaster play their first pre-season friendly this Sunday at home to Super League giants Hull FC.

They start their Championship campaign at London Broncos on February 15.
