Andy Butler is keen to put his brief spell with Sheffield United behind him and focus on helping move his hometown club up the League One table.

The 31-year-old yesterday signed a two-and-a-half year deal with Rovers after completing his long-awaited permanent switch from the Blades.

Butler – raised in Balby – played just one game for United after his summer move from Walsall before finding himself farmed out on loan, first to the Saddlers and then Rovers.

He is delighted to have his future sorted quickly so there have been no disruptions to his run in the Rovers side.

“It great that I haven’t had to miss any games,” he told the Star.

“Things didn’t work out at Sheffield United but thankfully I didn’t miss a lot of games.

“I was out on loan pretty quickly and then I came here which was great for me.

“All I want to do is play football.

“I want to put the Sheffield United thing to bed now and move on.

“I’m here to do a job for Doncaster Rovers and get them pushing towards the top of the table.”

Luke McCullough also put pen to paper on a two-and-a-half year extension to his deal with he and Butler looking set to be Rovers’ first-choice centre back pairing for some time.

And Butler says Rovers holding onto McCullough is a great piece of business.

He said: “I think that is a real coup for Doncaster.

“Luke is a very good footballer.

“He’s got an old head on young shoulders and he’s only going to get better.

“I’m sure there will have been plenty of other clubs interested in taking him at the end of the season.

“It’s been a pleasure playing alongside him and I’m looking forward to continuing that.

“We’ve got some strong competition for places from the likes of Jamie McCombe and Rob Jones will be pushing when he comes back.

“It’s all going really well for us right now and we’re all very determined for that to continue.”
