Ange Dunning, the founder of the Ray Dunning Scholarship Fund, has appealed for sponsors to help her achive her goal - to get more youngsters in Doncaster playing football.
Doncaster Rovers fan Ray, 42, collapsed at the final game of last season at Leicester City and died later that day.
His widow Ange has since launched the Ray Dunning Scholarship Fund in her husband’s memory.
Ange said: “This fund primarily is to help Doncaster children in low income families play football by providing grants in order for them to buy the kit they need to join an FA-approved football club or the Ray Dunning Football School which is another project in the pipeline.
“For this scholarship fund to be successful we need sponsorship and donations to help more children who would like to play football in the Doncaster area.
“Football is not just about playing a sport, it is to further develop life skills,” she added.
“It helps enhance a good understanding of the importance of good health, team work, confidence, fair play, respect, as well as other life skills which are paramount in the development of any child.”
The Ray Dunning Scholarship Fund operates as part of a registered charity and is sponsored and supported by Doncaster Rovers Football Club and Club Doncaster Foundation.
And Ange has paid tribute to the support she has already received in launching the Fund.
“From this tragedy, the support we received from Doncaster Rovers supporters, Doncaster Rovers Football Club, Leicester City Football Club and Leicester City supporters was phenomenal,” she said.
“The club has been invaluable with all the help and support I have received, and the insight and knowledge of Steve Uttley especially has been priceless.
“I must also mention that all four branches of the Doncaster Rovers supporters groups have been very generous in their donations to the charity, to which I am truly thankful.
“Also Eden Grove Cricket Club, where Ray was a member and player, put together a charity match in Ray’s memory and in aid of the Scholarship Fund and this will be held annually.”
The Ray Dunning Scholarship Fund has also set up a Sunday League football team, Team 23, made up of Doncaster Rovers fans.
