Doncaster Rovers: Dickov unfazed by fixture pile-up

Paul Dickov is unfazed by a potential fixture backlog following Saturday’s FA Cup postponement.

Rovers face a hectic end to the year - which will see them play at least 11 games in six weeks - after their first round tie at Weston-super-Mare became the club’s latest fixture casualty.

League One matches with Barnsley and Notts County have already fallen foul of international call-ups.

Rovers’ Johnstone’s Paint Trophy area quarter-final, also against Notts County, will also have to be rescheduled for a second time due to next week’s return trip to the Woodspring Stadium.

Dickov’s attitude to the potential fixture pile-up, however, is a straightforward one.

“It is a backlog - but we just have to deal with it,” said the Scot.

“It’s happened and we can’t change it.

“We know we’ve got a lot of games coming up.

“The disappointing thing is we were going into Saturday on good form,” he added.

“Both myself and Micky Bell [Weston-super-Mare manager] wanted the game to be played - without a shadow of doubt.

“But we have to respect the referee’s decision. The players’ safety was paramount.

“The positive thing is we were in the hat for the second round!”

Weston-super-Mare and Doncaster will try again next Tuesday night (Nov 18), forcing the already rescheduled JPT clash with the Magpies to take a back seat.

Any potential FA Cup replay would, in all likelihood, have to be played the following week, or on the date of the second round (Dec 6).

The postponed league games with Barnsley and Notts County have been rescheduled for Dec 2 and Dec 9 respectively.

But that league game with the Magpies will now almost certainly be ditched in favour of the outstanding JPT tie.

Rovers currently face at least 11 games in a six-week period to end the year, discounting any FA Cup replays or further rounds in the JPT.
