Paul Dickov is desperate to see old mate Kit Symons handed the reins at Fulham - but does not want to boost his cause tonight.

Dickov is set for a reunion with his former Manchester City skipper Symons tonight after he was made caretaker boss at Craven Cottage following Felix Magath’s departure last week.

And while fully endorsing the 43-year-old for the permanent position, Dickov will not be offering any favours in tonight’s Capital One Cup third round clash.

“Kit was captain at Manchester City when I first signed and he looked after me – if that’s what you’d call it,” Dickov told the Star.

“He showed me a few watering holes when I moved up from London.

“I know he’s my mate but I really hope he’s in with a chance of getting the Fulham job.

“He’s a young British coach, he knows the club inside out and he’s got fantastic coaching experience.

“He’s worked with all the young players Fulham seem to want to bring through and all the players will want to play for him.

“Kit’s a lovely guy and he’s a passionate football man as well which is something he will be instilling in his players.”

Dickov does not expect the Cottagers will have their minds on league matters after picking up just one point from their opening eight games.

He said: “I don’t want to play on that too much.

“They’ve changed their manager and you usually get a reaction from players after that.”
