Doncaster Rovers v Chesterfield: We’re determined to answer our critics - McCombe

Jamie McCombe says Doncaster Rovers are out to dispel the ‘doom and gloom’ this weekend.

The defender, recalled to the starting line up against Crawley, is targeting an uplifting result against near neighbours Chesterfield tomorrow.

And he says Rovers are determined to answer their critics.

McCombe said: “It’s all been a bit doom and gloom which is strange really, because we went to Colchester and played them off the park, and we went to Watford and battered them.

“We’ve given away a couple of silly goals since and it changes everyone’s perception. But the manager’s not changed his philosophy, and we’ve not changed.

“We just need to put it right on the pitch as quickly as possible to change people’s perceptions so they’re back with us again.”

He added: “After Saturday [at Bristol City] we were a little bit low, understandably. It was a day to forget. But it was good to come back on Tuesday and get a clean sheet.

“We were unfortunate not to win and it’s frustrating not being able to answer our critics straight away.

“It was disappointing because if you want to achieve things you need to be winning those sorts of games.

“But it’s a platform for us. Hopefully we can build on that platform.

“We’ve got some good games coming against Chesterfield and Walsall, and one in the cup. Things might look a lot different if we get some good results in those games.”
