Epworth Town U13 started the season with a bang after netting an emphatic 10-0 victory over Dale Park, writes Joseph Hanson.

The season couldn’t have started better for the newly-formed Epworth side, as they put five past the visitors in both the first and second halves to run out comfortable victors on their league bow.

Epworth started confidently with the Dale Park goalkeeper producing a fine save early on, but it wasn’t long before the deadlock was broken by Tom Kelly.

Making his debut for the team, 15 minutes into the first half, Kelly struck to open the scoring. Aaron Astle then doubled the advantage when he put them two up some five minutes later.

Dale Park found their feet and stand-in goalkeeper Joe Hanson was forced into a fine save to keep the visitors out. Further goals from Kelly and Astle looked to have settled the game by half time as Epworth went in five goals to the good.

Town continued with their fine form after the break with the new strike force of Kelly and Astle combining magnificently throughout.

Kelly continued his excellent performance - scoring five on his debut - with Astle netting three.

Sam Wright was rewarded for his strong play in the centre of midfield by scoring from the edge of the box.

The pick of the goals was scored by Kyle Scorr who hit a thumping shot from outside the box that beat the ‘keeper and arrowed into the top corner.

The home side controlled the game throughout thanks to a strong team performance that gives the side plenty of optimism going forward.

Josh Couch was also outstanding at left-back.

Scorr, Wright and George Graham controlled the midfield with Ben Carby - out on the wing - proving a constant threat with his penetrating runs and pinpoint crosses.

Overall, the whole team performed very well in their opening Jack Kalson League Robertson Division encounter.

Kelly received the man of the match gong following his impressive five goals during his debut.

Epworth are appealing for more players. If anyone would like to join, please contact Nick Hanson on 07760 227325.
