Elliott Kebbie will get another chance to impress as Paul Dickov looks to tick off pace on his recruitment checklist.
After playing the full second half of the friendly at Bradford Park Avenue, the flying winger looks set for more game time against Lincoln City tomorrow.
Yorkshire-born Kebbie is looking to secure a place on Rovers’ pre-season trip to Portugal next week while one of Dickov’s stated aims for the summer is to add pace to his squad.
Dickov said: “Elliott has got a decent history behind him.
“He went from Leeds to Atletico Madrid and he was at Hull last year. He’s one over the course of pre-season we’ll be keeping tabs on.
“He’s a winger but he got moved to right back at Atletico Madrid because they liked to play with attacking wing backs.”
Kebbie played on the left wing against Park Avenue and missed a couple of good chances, though he was hardly helped by an uneven pitch.
His preferred position is said to be on the right wing, cutting inside on his left foot to beat defenders.
Training with Rovers is part of Kebbie’s progress as he continues rebuilding a promising career.
The 19-year-old was snapped up by Atletico Madrid from Leeds, with a reported £500,000 paid in compensation.
But his time at the Vicente Calderon Stadium was cruelly cut short when he contracted glandular fever which he suffered with for nine months.
He returned home to complete his recovery but found his physical fitness decimated by the condition.
Kebbie signed a short term deal with Hull City in January but did not feature for the Tigers and has been working with a personal trainer to regain his fitness.
So far this summer he has trained with Halifax Town who are keen to land his signature but Kebbie is looking to join at Football League club to get his career back on track.
Pace runs in his family – he is the son of cross-code rugby ace Brimah Kebbie, a winger who played for St Helens and Saracens during his career.
And Kebbie has proven speed himself, having been Yorkshire Schools champion over 100m, 200m and 400m.
