Harry Forrester was never expected to play at Bradford Park Avenue on Wednesday night insists Paul Dickov.
Forrester sat out Rovers’ first friendly of the summer, leading to fears he has suffered a setback in his recovery from long term injury issues.
But Dickov says he will limit the midfielder’s game time to ensure he is ready to go for the start of the season.
Jamie McCombe was also not part of Dickov’s squad at the Horsfall Stadium.
“Both Jamie and Harry had injuries and they’ve both been out for a long time,” Dickov said.
“They’ve had a really intense period over pre-season.
“Jamie’s back was a bit stiff.
“Harry’s had a bit of muscle soreness which we expected.
“Harry was never earmarked to play tonight but he will definitely be out in Portugal and hopefully involved in the Huddersfield game.
“After the injuries they’ve had we’ve got to look after them to a certain extent.
“Getting the fitness work and physio work is more important than playing games for them at this stage.”
Dickov also revealed that Rob Jones has yet to be given the all clear as he battles back from a neck problem.
But he insists Jones is up to full fitness and ready to go once he gets the go-ahead.
Dickov said: “Jones has joined in training with us every day but he just can’t head the ball at the minute.
“Yet again, he’s flying, he’s fit and looking strong.
“He’s back at the specialist at the end of the month and hopefully he’ll get the all clear to join in properly.
“In regards to his physical fitness, he’s up there with the rest of the boys.
He’s ready to go when he gets the all clear.”
