Clive Griffiths says new recruit Alex Shaw ‘ticks all the boxes’ as he continues to mould a team for the Championship season.
Dynamic flanker Shaw was announced as the Knights’ latest capture as the 27-year-old completed the switch from Nottingham this weekend.
And Doncaster’s director of rugby could not be happier after snapping up the versatile back-rower who joins Canadian duo Jon Phelan and Tyler Hootson as fellow new recruits to Castle Park.
“Alex plays predominantly 6/8 and should really reinforce our back row options with some serious Championship experience,” said the Welshman.
“He was one of the form players in the division last year with a Nottingham side who didn’t have the best of seasons I’ve been very impressed watching his tapes and he comes with a very good pedigree.
“He’s a player who is capable in many aspects of the game.
“He’s a strong ball carrier, good at the breakdown and he’s a good lineout option so he really ticks all the boxes and I’m glad to have him on board.”
Shaw, who plays primarily as a blindside flanker, spent four seasons with Nottingham where he racked up over 100 appearances for the Green and Whites.
He developed through the prolific Leicester Tigers academy and represented England at U18s and U20s levels during his time with the Midlanders.
Shaw also spent time at Coventry and Cornish Pirates before moving to another Premiership outfit in Sale Sharks.
