Marshall A became the latest victim of Beckingham who are having a great start to the Gainsborough Bowls League season, writes Eric Dobbie.
Beckingham won 8–2 (74–69) but the match wasn’t as close as it sounds because the home side won three rinks including Shirley Farrow, George Dodsworth, and Gerald West winning 26–9.
It took a heroic effort by the visiting A team rink of Steve Musgrave, Tim Kempton, and Roy Enever - who won 32–10 - to make it close.
Champions Scotter 1 look good after a 9–1 win at Marshall Sports but that scoreline was greatly flattering. Scotter 1 looked likely to lose until a very late revival, winning the rinks by 4, 1, 1, drawing one, before winning the aggregate by 76–70.
Melrose eased to a 10–0 victory (117–42) at Scotter 2 but sadly their efforts were in vain as Scotter 2 pulled out of the league.
Worse still for Melrose was that Scotter 1 only beat Scotter 2 by 8–2 therefore Melrose dropped a further two points behind after the points were deducted.
Rose A continued their strong home form with a very comfortable 10–0 success (86–61) over visitors Misterton and climbed into fourth.
A usually tightly-contested match between Marton GB and North Wheatley saw another nail-biter before the Marton rink of Mike Treen, Mike Larke, and Beryl Brocklesby won 36–9 to see their side clinch an 8-2 victory (92-71).
