Paul Dickov: We’ll fight and scrap our way to safety

If we have to fight and scrap our way out of this we will do - and you can help us.

You, the fans, have been fantastic this season and we know you’ll get behind us tonight.

It’s up to us to show you how determined we are to get the three points for you.

I’m always up for a fight!

And tonight - and also against Millwall on Monday - the boys have to work as hard as they possibly can and fight for every ball.

When our fans get up for it, it really gives the lads a boost. But it has to start with us.

We want to play at a high tempo tonight and pressurise what are a very good team in Derby County.

But we’re also very mindful that we have to be very solid at the back because they’ve got players that can hurt you.

I’ll be reminding the lads of the Wigan performance, the Huddersfield one, the Watford one, the QPR one and Leicester.

All those games we’ve been up against it, and in a lot of them we’ve been coming off the back of a bad result and we’ve really risen to the occasion.

I’ve always got belief. My glass is always half full.

And yes, results haven’t gone the way we would have liked in the last three games, but the fact that the performances have been there gives the players the belief that we’re not far away.

Take away the first 15 minutes against Bolton, when we were too open, and we felt we deserved something from that game. So did the majority of people watching.

It was similar at Ipswich. We went to a team flying at the moment and contained them for long periods. We should have had a point from that game.

But if you keep working hard, and trying to be hard to beat, you’ve got a chance.

The last three results haven’t been good enough, we know that.

But we’re not far away and that’s what fills me with confidence going into these four games.

It’s got to be our aim to win these next two games but it’s fair to say that results in this division never go as you expect them to. We’ve seen that over the course of the year.

All we can do is try and get over that line as quickly as possible.

Let’s not forget there are five teams below us. It might only be one win required but everybody still has to win those games. I’d much rather be sitting where I am than the teams below us.
