Doncaster Rovers: Dickov demands ‘chip off the old block’ approach to final four

Paul Dickov has asked his players to be a chip off the old block - starting at home to Derby tonight (7.30pm).

Rovers’ boss is in typically bullish mood ahead of his side’s crunch Easter double-header against the Rams and Millwall.

Speaking at his weekly press conference yesterday, the Scot declared he was “up for the fight” ahead of the final four games that will determine Doncaster’s Championship fate.

Dickov insisted his side’s confidence has not been dented by three straight defeats against Birmingham, Bolton and Ipswich.

Business as usual is the order of the day at Cantley Park. Doncaster’s players remain convinced they can safely negotiate a potentially tricky run-in.

But, in preparation for this evening’s Sky-televised clash with the Rams, Dickov has swayed from the norm to make a specific request of his players.

“Never have I asked them to go and do anything for me,” Dickov said.

“But this week I’ve asked them to have my drive, my enthusiasm and my belief. I’m sure we’ll get that.”

Dickov, meanwhile, rejected claims that his players are starting to feel the pressure after seeing their safety cushion cut to three points.

“I don’t think they’ll be feeling any pressure when they cross the white line,” he said.

“As much as we’re disappointed with the last three results, the players can take a lot of belief from the nature of those performances.”

Richie Wellens (pictured) and Lucas Neill are rated 50/50 for tonight.
