South Axholme Academy’s year nine footballers made it five wins out of five following a final 6-1 victory over Outwood Academy.
South Axholme’s opponents started the brighter with an early chance forcing Joe Maxfield into a save with his legs.
That chance galvanised South Axholme as Scott Ewen drove the team on with some great play down the right.
And it was his good work which led to the first goal as his cross was not properly cleared and Alex Stead fired home from close range.
Stead added another goal two minutes later when he took the ball down on his chest, bulldozed his way through three defenders and slotted the ball past the goalkeeper.
Outwood got back into the game just before half time when indecision in defence resulted in Sam McCullagh heading into his own goal to make it 2-1.
South Axholme started the second half at a good tempo and soon began creating chances.
Sam McCullagh, who put in a man of the match performance, made it 3-1 when he headed in a Ritchie Burdett corner.
Burdett himself then got on the scoresheet with a superb 25-yard free kick which left the goalkeeper with no chance.
Robbie Robson capped an impressive performance with a goal, beating two defenders and smashing a low shot into the corner to make it 5-1.
The game was wrapped up five minutes from time when debutant Ciaran Payne beat his marker for pace and drilled a shot into the far top corner.
Meanwhile, the year nine side also managed to dispatch local rivals The Axholme Academy with a comprehensive 4-0 victory.
South Axholme had to wait 15 minutes for their first real chance and opened the scoring when Ben Carson reacted quickest in the box after a Stead shot had been saved.
Carson was on hand to smash the ball through a number of defenders into the net for 1-0.
Five minutes later South Axholme doubled their lead when Robson was tripped in the box. He then calmly slotted the penalty home to make it 2-0.
In the second half, South Axholme had further chances to extend their lead before McCullagh headed home a Burdett corner to make it 3-0.
Substitute Will Gillis then added a fourth goal to seal the victory with a brilliant chip from 20 yards.
The Axholme Academy had a chance late on to grab a consolation but were denied by a great double save by Maxfield.
