Doncaster Rovers: Dickov’s men looking to double up against Wednesday

Paul Dickov says Rovers have focused more on not suffering double defeats than picking up win doubles this season.

But he is relishing the prospect of doing the double for the first time this campaign when Sheffield Wednesday visit the Keepmoat this afternoon.

Rovers picked up their solitary away win to date when they visited Hillsborough back in September.

“You want to get as many wins as you can, however they come and whoever they come against,” Dickov said.

“If that means getting doubles, that’s fantastic. It will be an important win if we get it.

“One thing we’ve tried to do this season is make sure teams don’t do the double over us.

“Two teams have done that already and we want to end it there.

“With back to back home wins we’re heading into this game with plenty of confidence.”

After watching Wednesday run out 3-0 winners against QPR on Tuesday night, Dickov is expecting a tough test at the Keepmoat.

And he is full of praise for the job Stuart Gray has done with the Owls since taking over.

“They looked down and out but Stuart’s done a phenomenal job,” Dickov said.

“He’s a fantastic football person who’s very calm and that calmness goes out onto the field with the players.

“They’re very organised and they’re big and powerful but he’s got them playing as well.

“He deserves a lot of credit for the position he’s got them into.

“I watched the game on Tuesday and they’re hitting a bit of form.

“It’s two teams that are in form. It’ll be two teams and two sets of fans that will be right up for it,

“Both teams will try to win it.”
