Doncaster Rovers: Dickov weighs up striker loan swoop

Paul Dickov could bolster his attacking options with a late loan swoop ahead of Saturday’s six-pointer with Barnsley.

With Billy Sharp serving the first game of his three match ban, Chris Brown and Alex Peterson are the only out-and-out strikers available.

Harry Forrester (ankle) took part in training on Thursday, handing Dickov a timely fitness boost.

But Rovers’ boss is also weighing up a temporary move for a striker - and hopeful of completing a deal in time for this weekend’s vital South Yorkshire tussle.

“We’ve got a couple of things in mind,” Dickov said at Thursday’s press call.

“We can go with the same system that we did against Wigan, which caused them a lot of problems.

“Or there’s the possibility of getting a striker in before Saturday, which we’re hopeful of doing.

“We’ve got options. I’ve got time to sleep on it and decide what is the best way to go. Whatever team we put out, it’ll be an attacking team.”

Billy Sharp’s absence for the best part of a month has forced Dickov to explore the loan market.

“If it was case of playing Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday, it wouldn’t be so bad. Billy would be back in a flash,” said Dickov.

“But he’s going to be on the sidelines for the best part of a month.

“Theo Robinson’s hoping to return to training next week and Harry Forrester was back in training on Thursday, he’ll hopefully be in the squad this weekend.

“If we feel we need to bring someone in to give us cover up front, or to come in and play, we’ll do that. We’re hopeful we’ll have someone in for Saturday.”
