Thornensians’ resounding 69-8 home victory in the second round of the Yorkshire Silver Trophy over Rossington Hornets turned out to be a family affair for father and son Cliff and Josh Walker.

Veteran Cliff, 52, turned out at prop, while 21-year-old Josh came on as a replacement at scrum-half for his senior debut and scored one of Thorne’s 11 tries.

Thorne held off a first-half challenge by the Hornets to turn round 34-8 ahead and it was one-way traffic after the restart.

Martin Moffat, Ryan Pilley and Arran Holt all scored tries, while fly-half Konrad Hanson was on kicking duty.

After a week off, the Northern Division League programme returns to action this weekend with Wheatley Hills facing Alnwick at home in North One East.

Doncaster Phoenix will be gunning for the top of the Yorkshire One table when they entertain Bridlington at Castle Park, while Wath on Dearne take on Acklam at Moor Road.

Thornensians return to league action in Yorkshire Three with the visit of Rotherham Phoenix to Coulman Road, while Rossington will be aiming to bounce back when they go to Knaresborough in Yorkshire Five.
