Rovers have stepped up their pursuit of Hull striker Nick Proschwitz but look likely to be forced to wait until next week for a deal to be done.

The Star understands Rovers held talks with Hull over a loan deal for the towering German on Thursday but are resigned to waiting for the switch to completed.

Should the situation dramatically change, Rovers would have until noon today to register the transfer for Proschwitz to be eligible for selection for the clash with Wigan Athletic.

Rovers have completed one signing ahead of the visit of Wigan with Gabriel Tamas agreeing a deal until the end of the season.

The 30-year-old – who has trained with Rovers this week – looks set for an immediate debut, filling in for the injured Paul Quinn at right back.

Hull’s Proschwitz has emerged as Rovers’ main striker target over the last few days.

Hull boss Steve Bruce has confirmed Rovers’ interest.

He said: “Doncaster have made an enquiry for Nick and I do believe there’s been one from Wolves too.

“We’ll look at that over the next week or so and have a conversation with Nick as to what he wants to do.”

Proschwitz has this week dropped further down the pecking order at the KC Stadium following Hull’s signing of Shane Long and Nikica Jelavic.

The 27-year-old has made 37 appearances for Hull since his £2.5m switch from SC Paderborn in July 2012.

But he has started just 12 times and netted seven goals.
