Paul Dickov still hopes to thrash out a deal for Gabriel Tamas after getting a seal of approval from England boss Roy Hodgson.

Tamas, who played under Hodgson at West Bromwich Albion, is currently training with Rovers while negotiations over a short term deal continue.

The Romanian defender’s wage demands are thought to have slowed the process but Dickov remains hopeful an agreement can be reached with the 30-year-old sooner rather than later.

“I’ve been reading all these stories that his wage demands are too high and everything else,” said Dickov.

“But we’re looking to sort a deal out with Gabby.

“He’s someone that we feel would improve the squad massively.

“He’s a top player, he played for West Brom in the Premier League last year and he can play at centre half or right back.

“I’ve spoken to lots of people about him, including Steve Clarke and Roy Hodgson.

“He’s had a couple of mishaps over the last couple of years but the reports we’ve had back is if you can sign him, take him.

“We’re hopeful we can get something done,” he added.

“Because of the quality of the player and the experience he has, there’s other clubs interested.

“We’re just happy to have him here and keep him in Doncaster while we try and sort something out.

“He’s not played for a while but he is super fit. He loves defending and he’s comfortable on the ball.

“If we can get him it’d be a massive coup for us.”
