Doncaster Phoenix got 2014 off to a perfect start with a four-try 29-10 victory over Halifax rivals Old Brodleians.
The bonus point win saw them edge in front of Dinnington and move back up to second place in Yorkshire One, only three points behind front runners Ilkley.
Phoenix took the game straight to Brodleians with a third minute try by centre and captain Andy Ellis.
Dan Storey landed the conversion and Storey added a penalty goal 12 minutes later to put the home side ten points clear.
There was no further score until the visitors were awarded a penalty in front of the posts just on half time.
Again, Phoenix were quick off the blocks in the second half, extending their lead when centre Craig Deakin raced over for a try in the 44th minute.
Storey also added the points when flanker Oliver Clark crashed over on 50 minutes.
He was wide of the mark when winger Tom Barker scraped over near the corner flag for the all-important fourth try.
Wath on Dearne conceded six tries as they tumbled to a 47-10 home defeat to Selby.
Brendan Angell scored a try and Andrew Appleyard kicked a penalty as the hosts were convincingly beaten.
Wheatley Hills will be disappointed after losing 11-7 in a dour North One East game against Malton and Norton.
There was little entertainment for the spectator in a game played in murky conditions.
Hills struggled to get going in the first half, with Malton taking full advantage.
Sam Triffitt scored the opening try of the game for the visitors, crashing over in the corner after just five minutes.
But the try failed to spark the game into life and it was not until 34 minutes that they added to the score through a Charlie Ramsey penalty.
Wheatley pulled it back to 8-7 just after the hour mark after some good forward play opened the door for Brad Stephenson.
The hooker made no mistake and Jonathan Woodcock added the extras.
But the game faded again and another penalty from Ramsey was enough to seal the win for Malton and Norton.
Thornensians looked a little rusty as they made a string of mistakes in their 25-15 loss to Leeds Medics in Yorkshire Three.
Thorne looked dangerous at times and scored three good tries, with efforts from wingers Brett Hunt and Ethan Bernard especially easy on the eye.
Hunt was involved in some great passing before crashing over to score and Bernard collected the ball superbly before skipping his way through the home side’s defence.
Thornensians put pressure on the Medics defence towards the end of the game but their impatience cost them dear as their opponents turned the ball over and ran in a breakaway try to snatch the win.
Rossington Hornets lost out narrowly 7-10 in their home clash with Garforth in Yorkshire Five.
