Doncaster Town’s quest for a fourth successive Yorkshire League win was halted by the rain at Castleford on Saturday.
The game was stacked in Town’s favour when the weather brought the contest to a premature halt, much to the frustration of Alex Gosney’s in-form side.
On a damp track, Town batted first and were restricted to 194 all out.
The bulk of the runs came from the middle order, including 47 from Stuart Guy.
James Stuart (43), Australian Nick Wright 41, and Felix Odell (30no) saw Doncaster up to a defendable total.
A devastating spell of seven overs, four maidens, 4-6 by youngster Curtis Free then had the home side reeling on 63-5 when the rain came after 20 overs.
Both teams earned three points from the game, with Town left feeling that it was one that got away.
Before the game skipper Gosney had targeted an eight-point return as his team go in search of a top four finish.
This weekend Town face a double-header.
They travel to Driffield on Saturday before entertaining Sheffield Collegiate on Monday. Both games start at noon.
