They may be visiting one of the hot favourites for promotion tonight but Rovers will be instructed to go all out for the win.
Paul Dickov insists he will never send one of his sides out to play for a draw.
And he has promised he will hand his players a license to play with freedom at Wigan tonight (7.45pm).
“I’ll never once send a team out to try and nick a draw because I think you get found out a lot of times when you do that,” Dickov said.
“We’ll go to Wigan and try to win the game.
“Of course we’ll respect them a lot because they’ve got a lot of top players.
“But we can go there with a bit of belief.
“We know how tough it will be but we can go there, play with a lot of freedom and try to win the game.
“Nobody is expecting us to win so why not go there and have a go.”
Dickov says the impressive 2-0 win over Blackburn last Friday has given his side some breathing space.
And he says the confidence boost of a first win of the season will be important heading to the DW Stadium.
He said: “Getting three points on Friday handed us the opportunity to go to Wigan in a really positive frame of mind and have a good go at them.
“If we’d hadn’t got the three points we’d have nothing from two games and we’d probably be going to one of the favourites feeling maybe a bit apprehensive.”
The Rovers boss has targeted another strong defensive showing against Wigan.
“When you’re coming up against top players like we did on Friday in Jordan Rhodes and David Dunne, being strong in defence is massively important,” he added.
“It’s going to have to be at least as good as that against Wigan.
“We want to play with the ball, be a threat and pass it around. But it’s as important, if not more so, that your shape and distances are up to scratch.
“We want to press teams but it’s impossible to do it completely for 90 minutes.
“You have to been really disciplined and I thought we were excellent at times with that on Friday.”
Dean Furman will be pushing for a return to starting XI after missing the Blackburn game having only returned from international duty mere hours before the game.
