Paul Dickov praised debut hero Theo Robinson for his performance in Rovers’ victory over Blackburn.

Robinson opened the scoring for Rovers in the 2-0 triumph, just a day after signing a two year deal with the club.

“He did very well,” Dickov said.

“He only came in and trained once with us but it didn’t surprise me how well he did because he’s a player who I know a lot about. I’ve watched him a lot over the last three years and he’s someone I’ve tried to sign him a few times. Theo’s a goalscorer. He’s got that fantastic knack of getting in the box and finishing things off.

“If you look throughout his career, not a lot of his goals have come from outside the box.

“I wasn’t surprised by his sharpness.

“We had him watched in pre-season and he got six goals, albeit not with Derby’s first team. We knew we might have to take him off after 70 minutes but that’s always easier when you’re 2-0 up.”

James Husband doubled Rovers’ lead in the second half with a cross-cum-shot from 35 yards.

And Dickov believed had Rovers won by a greater margin, it would not have been unjust.

He said: “I thought we created some very good chances tonight and if we’d have won by three or four goals, no disrespect to Blackburn, but I think it would have been justified.

“We could maybe have been a bit more clinical but that’s something we can work on. I believe we can improve everywhere on the pitch, I don’t think that was near our best and that’s something to be positive about.

“It’s fantastic that we’ve won 2-0 with a really good performance and I’m talking about things we can improve on.

“We have got a very tough with Wigan coming up on Tuesday so we’ll enjoy this and start working on improving for Wigan on Saturday.”
