Outcasts CC Firsts’ promotion hopes suffered a dent after league leaders Broughton beat them for the second time in a month.

Crowle batted first in the Lincs League Division One tie and soon found themselves one down when Oliver Coulman was caught by Matt Hammond off Tom Reed for six with the total on 14 before fellow opener Darren Clark went - bowled by a Shaun Clark yorker for 11 with just five further runs on the board.

Matthew Teal and John Stokoe began to fight back and both hit terrific boundaries as they added 46 runs but Stokoe was struggling having been struck on the foot by a Clark delivery. He was eventually bowled for 25 with the score at 65.

Not a run had been added when Teal was well caught by wicket keeper Paul Reed off Robbie Ward’s first delivery and before the over had finished, visiting skipper Richard Wroot was also out, caught as Outcasts’ middle order collapsed.

Andy Torr and Graham Clark stuck around, taking the score up to 98 before Torr was caught off Clark for 18 having just been permitted a runner due to an injured hamstring.

Clark holed out to Matt Hammond off Ward for 15 having just brought up three figures but the rest of the innings fell away as the final three wickets went down on 102 - Brock picking up 2-1 whilst Clark ended with 3-56 and Ward 3-16.

Outcasts needed early wickets but Broughton openers Matt Hammond and Neil Simpson held on, putting on 58 for the first wicket. Hammond was later bowled beautifully from Liam McAnaney for 22.

New signing Ollie Booth hit one boundary before he was caught by Torr off Teal then spin bowler Craig McAnaney entered the fray and picked up three wickets in his first over, having Reed caught by Teal.

Crowle nearly caused an upset at 82-5, however, Broughton’s Simpson was still at the crease and brought up his own half century with a boundary. He and Paul Reed guided his team to 103-5 and a full twenty points haul.
