Doncaster Town fell at the final hurdle in the Yorkshire League T20 Cup after losing to a powerful Driffield side at Scarborough.

James Stuart scored an excellent 57 to drag his side up to 130-6, while Amit Kundra supported with 25 not out as Town recovered from a slow start.

But the total proved to be insufficient against a well-drilled Driffield outfit who had already accounted for favourites York earlier in the day.

Opener Sam Drury smashed 51 off 34 balls and Nick Hardgrave made a quickfire 45 to guide their team to victory in 15.4 overs.

Earlier on Sunday Town defeated Sheffield Collegiate by 22 runs to reach the final.

Simon Widdup (83), Stuart Guy (60), Curtis Free (2-18) and skipper Alex Gosney 3-28 all contributed to a comfortable win.

Gosney’s side climbed to their highest league position for several years on Saturday after a six wicket win over neighbours Barnsley saw Doncaster move up to fifth in the Yorkshire League standings.

Batting first, the visitors were restricted to 197-5 in hot and humid conditions.

Tom Shaw hit a superb 94 not out and John Trower made 51, while Free (2-17) and Stuart (2-34) were the pick of the Doncaster bowlers.

Gareth Cox (57) and Guy (53no) top scored in a comfortable run chase.

Champions York are the visitors to Town Field on Saturday (noon).
