Former Hall Cross School pupil James Stuart has been offered the chance to impress at county level by Northamptonshire.

Doncaster Town’s promising all-rounder has featured for Northants’ second XI this season after starting the campaign in a rich vein of form.

Stuart already has more than 500 runs to his name and is Doncaster’s leading wicket taker with 36 dismissals.

The 21-year-old paceman has been struggling with a shoulder injury of late but that did not prevent him picking up season best figures of 6-49 in Saturday’s home defeat to Driffield.

Former Yorkshire Academy player Stuart rose through the junior ranks with the White Rose county and earned a call-up to Yorkshire’s second XI in 2011, playing alongside England’s Joe Root against the MCC at York.

But with the chances of progression with his home county receding, Stuart is keen to take his chance with Northants and is hoping for further opportunities to impress at the County Ground.

Stuart’s sporting pedigree stretches beyond cricket. He was enrolled with Sheffield Wednesday’s centre of excellence as a youngster and has also played rugby at a good level for his school.
