Legendary trainer Sir Henry Cecil - who coached four St Leger winners - has died at the age of 70.

Scottish-born Cecil was responsible for 25 British Classic winners and has been hailed the “greatest trainer of all time” by veteran racing broadcaster Derek Thompson.

Cecil, who was awarded a knighthood for services to racing in 2011, battled against cancer in his later years.

He trained four St Leger winners at Doncaster: Light Cavalry (1980), Oh So Sharp (1985), Reference Point (1987) and Michelozzo (1989).

He also racked up 75 Royal Ascot winners, more than anyone else, and guided Frankel to 14 straight wins from 2010-2012.
