Fifteen years on from their famous Abbot Ale Cup triumph at Lords, Doncaster Town Cricket Club are making impressive progress in the ECB National Club Championship.

Victory over strong and experienced Bradford League outfit Hanging Heaton on Sunday - courtesy of a ruthless display from Doncaster’s young bowling attack - sent the Town Field club through to the Yorkshire region’s Group Final.

Alex Gosney’s side will have their work cut out reaching the next stage.

They must travel to reigning ECB national champions and Yorkshire League champions York on Sunday, June 23.

But if they bowl and field like they did at the weekend at Batley they have every chance of causing an upset.

Curtis Free (4-35) was the pick of the bowlers for Doncaster in a 63-run triumph, following up Saturday’s ten wicket win over Castleford in the league.

Doncaster are back in league action on Saturday when they host Driffield.

Town Field also plays host to the first stage of the ECB Yorkshire League T20 Cup on Sunday.

Doncaster play Barnsley at 10am, followed by Sheffield United against Appleby Frodingham at 1pm. The two winners meet in the final at 4pm.
