Promoted Doncaster Phoenix have moved swiftly to strengthen their squad by signing former Doncaster Knights stalwart Chris Planchant.
The 31-year-old back row announced his retirement from the Knights earlier this month.
Phoenix moved to secure his signature in double quick time as they look to build on the success of reaching Yorkshire One for the first time in their history.
Planchant, who also lists Waterloo, North Otago, New Brighton and Birkenhead Park among his former clubs, will assist Phoenix coach Ryan Peacey with coaching the forwards as well as playing.
He decided to leave full time playing with the Knights to concentrate on his teaching career at Hall Cross School.
“It’s been getting trickier to balance the two over the last couple of years, but I’m delighted to have joined Phoenix,” said Planchant, who spent six years with the Knights.
“I know a few of the boys here so I’m really looking forward to it as the club did tremendously well to get promotion last year.”
Phoenix rugby manager Drew Noble said he had no hesitation in contacting the rugged forward once he became available.
“Chris is a quality player and one we’re very excited to have captured,” he said.
