Megan Wilson’s 76th minute match-winner brought the North East Regional League Cup to Doncaster Belles Women.
The side, who are the adult team from the junior section, travelled to Norton in Cleveland to face Barnsley Ladies in the league cup final - with silverware just 90 minutes away.
The Belles side is only in its second season of existence, having been promoted to NERWFL Division 1 (South) from the Sheffield and Hallamshire Women’s League last season.
Their league campaign this year has also seen them finish as runners-up to Rothwell.
Belles’ opponents Barnsley, from the NERWFL Premier Division, started the match as favourites.
However, they should not have underestimated the Doncaster side who had already beaten three Premier Division sides in their cup run including league champions Chester-Le-Street in the cup semi-finals.
The match was a close one throughout.
The Belles thought they had gone in front in the 35th minute when they had the ball in the net from a corner but it was disallowed.
With stalemate at half time, it was not until late on when the deadlock was finally broken when substitute Wilson met a cross from the right which the Barnsley keeper could only deflect onto the post and into the goal to bring the cup home.
