Paul Dickov swept into the Keepmoat Stadium hot seat yesterday with a promise to bring a positive mental attitude to Doncaster Rovers.

The 40-year-old Scot said he was ‘honoured’ to take over at the League One champions - and has no intention of going into the Championship to make the numbers up.

“I’m absolutely delighted that the board have chosen me. It’s an honour,” said Dickov.

“It’s a step up, but a step up I feel I’m ready for.

“I’ll be doing everything I can to make sure they’ve made the right decision. I’m a positive person and I believe in my own ability to succeed.

“I’m an honest guy who works really hard,” he added.

“I’ll ask the players to do two things - work as hard as you possibly can every single day and be the best you can be.

“If you do those two things in any walk of life, never mind football, you’ve got a great chance of being successful.”

On the challenge ahead, Dickov added: “If we aim to just stay in the division that sends out a negative vibe straight away.

“It’s a very competitive division but we’re going into it with a lot of momentum and a lot of confidence.

“I want to maintain that and make that better.

“We’ve got to set the bar high, set your standards high, and you never know what you could achieve.

“I want to make people hungry here, and make them realise how good they can be.”
