Big-hitting batsmen at Warmsworth are advised to aim away from the pavilion!

The clubhouse at Common Lane is being re-roofed after the club secured a £50,000 Sport England grant to upgrade facilities.

England under-19 coach Tim Boon, a former Warmsworth player, and Don Valley MP Caroline Flint were among a host of dignitaries who launched the onset of building work at the ground earlier this week.

Warmsworth officials hope that the improvements will attract more new players and visitors to the club from the local community.

Secretary Richard Nettleton said: “Thanks to the Olympic legacy these works will revitalise the club and the clubhouse.

“We are hoping that the improvement in the facilities will attract more members, players and visiting teams to the club.

“Our plans are that this is just the first stage in the modernisation of our clubhouse and its facilities over the next few years.”

Warmsworth’s first team, who play in Division Three of the South Yorkshire League, return to action this weekend following a weekend off. They travel to Maltby on Saturday and host Conisbrough B on Sunday.

The club also runs teams in the Barnsley and District League and Doncaster Infirmary Evening League.

Anyone interested in joining Warmsworth’s junior or senior ranks should email secretary@warmsworthcc.com.
