A year seven pupil is punching the air in delight after winning a gold medal in a taekwondo competition.
Ciaran West, of Balby Carr Community Sport and Science College, won the gold in the pairs National Poomsae Taekwondo competition in Nottingham.
His gold medal comes in addition to his third place finish in the Belgian Open Poomsae competition.
West has now been invited to take part in May’s European Championships in Spain.
West has been doing Poomsae Taekwondo - a sequence of patterns and movements - since the tender age of five.
He trains twice a week at Ultimate Taekwondo based in Armthorpe.
The 12-year-old said: “I enjoy the patterns of Poomsae which is the movement to defend yourself.”
The European Championships will be held over three days between May 30 and June 2.
Anne Cooper, of Balby Carr, said: “I am very proud of Ciaran.
“He is a very dedicated pupil and it is wonderful to have such a fantastic and driven student in my year group.
“We will support Ciaran as he continues to achieve greater success in Poomsae and we wish him the best of luck for the European Competition.”
