The family of a teenage hot prospect could hardly hold back their delight as he won a top boxing belt in aid of charity.
Cameron Kaihau may follow a strong list of family members who have entered the ring.
But the 19-year-old is starting to make a name for himself following success in his recent bout.
Kaihau faced Paddy Doyle this month at the Gladiators Boxing Academy in West Yorkshire as part of a five-fight night which helped raise money for the Mayor of Kirklees’ chosen charity the Yorkshire Regiment Benevolent Trust.
Academy boxers from all over the country competed on the night with three Yorkshire belts and two charity belts up for grabs.
And Balby star Kaihau, of Smith Street, claimed one of the charity belts in Huddersfield in front of his proud travelling supporters - none more proud than father and coach Si Kaihau.
His dad, a former amateur boxer himself, has been coaching and training the teenager since the tender age of 12.
Kaihau’s boxing education has been a vast, family-orientated one too.
His grandad Alani came over from Tonga to box professionally and in turn taught son Si.
Kaihau works with his dad from Mexborough ABC, where they train three times a week.
The gym is owned by local businessman Graham Schofield.
Schofield’s gym also offers youngsters from the area the chance to train for free.
The scheme is Schofield’s way of putting something back into the community for youngsters across the borough.
