The battle to avoid relegation from League One this season could go all the way to the final game of the season, Iron boss Brian Laws believes.
Scunthorpe, who entertain play-off hopefuls Coventry City at Glanford Park on Saturday, currently sit just two points above the League One drop zone, and could go into the bottom four this weekend if they lose or draw, and Oldham beat Hartlepool.
“There is no doubt about it that the battle of avoid relegation is going to go all the way to the wire,” Laws said.
“All the sides are winning games against higher opposition, which is bringing more clubs into danger and giving those at the bottom hope that they can stay up.”
Three home wins in a week, against Portsmouth, Crawley and Carlisle, seemingly pulled Scunthorpe away from relegation trouble.
But a run of three defeats in four games has sucked them back into it again.
“We had a fantastic week during the middle of last month,” Laws added.
“But then we were brought back to square one when we went and lost in unacceptable circumstances at Yeovil.
“The only way that we can say we are ‘definitely’ going to be in League One next year is that we need to win our games.
“We have got 10 ‘cup finals’ remaining this season and that is the way we need to address every single game that we go into now.
“If we do not, we will put ourselves in danger of going down.”
