Dickov staying calm after back-to-back wins boost Doncaster Rovers’ play-off push

Paul Dickov says his Rovers side are confident they are in a strong position to mount a promotion push but will take nothing for granted.

Eight unanswered goals over two games in the last week has seen Rovers move to within a point of the top six while still holding a game in hand on several of their rivals.

But Dickov says he will continue to hammer home that the position is fragile and Rovers could easily find themselves adrift in a short space of time.

“We know we’ve given ourselves a really good chance but that’s all that it is at the minute,” Dickov said.

“I know how quickly it can change. It doesn’t say anything about how the league is going to end up.

“I think we need to keep everyone’s feet on the ground.

“I’ve learned very quickly that if we get two wins everyone gets giddy and thinks we’re going to get promoted and if we get two defeats everyone wants me sacked and we’re getting relegated. We’ll keep our feet on the ground and keep building on these performances and results.”

Rovers followed up the 5-0 mauling of Crawley in midweek with a comfortable 3-0 triumph over Yeovil courtesy of goals from Nathan Tyson, Dean Furman and Kyle Bennett.

Dickov says Rovers’ new-found scoring touch quite simply comes down to taking chances they would have wasted in previous weeks.

He said: “After the win at Crawley I said the main difference was that we’re creating chances and putting them away as well and that was the same on Saturday.

“Against Walsall, Chesterfield, Notts County, Gillingham - I could go on and on - we created five or six good chances but didn’t finish them off.

“The difference in the last couple of games is that we’ve been clinical in the final third.

“We’ve got to take a lot of confidence and belief from the last two games and take it into the game against Crewe on Tuesday.”

Dickov confirmed Harry Forrester was withdrawn early in the second half due to a groin issue while Uche Ikpeazu missed out with a continuation of his hamstring problem.

“Uche trained yesterday and I’ve got to give him credit because he came to me and said he didn’t feel quite right.

“That showed a lot of maturity from the kid. He could easily have got in the squad, got his appearance money and win money and not said anything.”
