Rovers president Dick Watson offered an emphatic assurance that Paul Dickov will not be put through another summer of turmoil during a fiesty Meet The Owners event at the Keepmoat last night.
Despite being the most senior figure on the panel, Watson had little involvement in the hour-long forum with most questions posed to chief executive Gavin Baldwin and manager Dickov.
But he sprung into action when asked for reassurance that there would be no repeat of the last two summers where Dickov’s business has been disrupted by separate takeover bids.
Watson’s answer was a simple ‘yes.’
Grasping his chance to speak, Watson then praised the work of both Dickov and Baldwin.
He said: “Paul in the summer had about ten days to put a team together and that showed on the pitch at times.
“He’s brought players in and I believe we’ve got far more commitment to the youth side under Paul’s management than we’ve ever had at this club.
“We see an awful lot of clubs in a state of disarray.
“This club is being very well run. I think Gavin is the best chief executive in the Football League.
“All aspects of the club are moving forward. Take the stadium. It now is making a profit and that profit is being ploughed back into the club.
He finished by saying: “You know who owns this club, you know they are local people and we are committed to the club.”
