Doncaster Rovers: De Val departs | Razak clearance in hands of Greek FA

Marc De Val’s frustrating 18-month stay in England was brought to an abrupt end yesterday when he was allowed to leave Doncaster Rovers.

The Spaniard, whose two-year deal was set to expire in the summer, is set to return to his native country and join La Liga outfit Cordoba after his contract was cancelled.

De Val’s Rovers career got off to the worst possible start when he suffered medial ligament damage in a pre-season friendly with Motherwell.

He impressed in midfield earlier this season but struggled to hold down a regular spot.

The 24-year-old reacted angrily when he was substituted during the first half against Peterborough last month in what turned out to be his final appearance in a Doncaster shirt.

Boss Paul Dickov has previously admitted that De Val had struggled to adapt culturally after swapping Spain for South Yorkshire.

Rovers’ decision to let him go would suggest the club have no concerns about gaining international clearance for OFI Crete midfielder Abdul Razak.

Razak signed a deal until the end of the season last week but the necessary paperwork to complete the transfer is still in the hands of the Greek FA.

It is now looking increasingly unlikely that the Ivorian’s switch will be concluded in time for this weekend’s trip to Chesterfield but Rovers officials are hopeful it will be done in time for Walsall’s visit to the Keepmoat on February 7.
