Doncaster Rovers: Paul Dickov ‘happy’ with Curtis Main

Paul Dickov insists he is happy with the contribution of Curtis Main, despite the striker’s recent struggles in front of goal.

Main came in for criticism after missing two gilt-edged opportunities in the goalless draw with Notts County on Tuesday night, just a few days after a particular poor miss against Barnsley.

He has found the net just once in the last 13 games.

But Dickov says he is pleased to see the 22-year-old finding the target and remains confident Main will find his scoring touch.

“He’s in there and he’s hitting the target,” Dickov said.

“If anything, he had a few chances last Saturday where he didn’t hit the target.

“You have to give a lot of credit to Roy Carroll (Notts County keeper) for his performance on Tuesday night.

“He made four or five really good saves and he’s a top goalkeeper.

“The positive for me is that we’re creating chances.

“If you’re not creating chances, like we weren’t earlier on in the season, then you start to worry.

“But I can’t fault any of the players. Apart from the little finishing touch, the attitude, application, the workrate and the desire to keep creating those chances is there, right until the end.”

Main’s fellow strikers Nathan Tyson and Theo Robinson have both scored one goal in their last 11 appearances.

Only three teams have scored fewer goals in League One than Rovers this season while rock bottom Yeovil are the only side to have scored fewer on home soil.
