Let’s carry good workrate on, says Doncaster Rovers boss Paul Dickov

Paul Dickov has called upon his players to replicate their workrate from Saturday’s superb win at Swindon over the rest of the season.

Rovers’ triumph - courtesy of Theo Robinson’s first half penalty - was characterised by a great deal of effort in defence and smart work on the break from all members of the side.

And Dickov believes should that be present in each game, his side would be better placed in League One.

“When you have the desire and workrate that all the players had on Saturday, if we could get that every week, I think we’re a good team,” Dickov told the Star.

“When we get the ball, we’ve got some very good players.

“If we can start keeping clean sheets, we’ve always got a chance of winning games.

“The funny thing is, we probably created 15 more chances against Gillingham last week and had much more possession but we beat Swindon 1-0 and that’s what happens when you keep a clean sheet.”

Dickov says it was important Rovers put behind them the disappointment of the previous week’s 2-1 defeat at home to Gillingham and focus on tackling what he referred to as the best footballing side in the division.

He said: “We were all frustrated last week because we should have won the game.

“We were desperate to put to bed the home form we keep being reminded about.

“But we had to forget about that and go to Swindon with a real performance because I regard them as the best footballing side in the division.

“It was a real disciplined performance and tactically the players were excellent.”

Dickov confirmed Nathan Tyson’s recovery from injury has been delayed after he missed treatment last week due to personal reasons.

Kyle Bennett was withdrawn on Saturday with a hamstring strain and will be assessed ahead of the Boxing Day clash with Coventry City.
