Paul Dickov says Jack McKay is ‘in his thinking’ and Rovers’ rising stars will continue to be given their chance at first team level.

Teenage striker McKay continues to knock on the door of the senior side after bagging a hat trick for Doncaster Rovers’ Under 18s in their impressive 3-1 FA Youth Cup win over Norwich City on Thursday night.

The 18-year-old frontman has shot to prominence after being voted the club’s academy player of the year last season - and his prolific form in front of goal has continued this term.

Dickov says the door is open for McKay and his young teammates to play their way into his first team plans.

“Jack was in my thinking already [before Thursday night],” said Dickov.

“Already this year Mitchell Lund, Billy Whitehouse and Jack have made their debuts, Harry Middleton has played, and Liam Wakefield has played.

“Paul McKay, Liam Mandeville and Lewis Ferguson have also been involved in the squad.

“That’s eight names there already from our youth system.

“Whether all that lot will come through in the long run, we don’t know.

“But they are certainly getting the chances to do it and that’s what we want to try and do at this club.”

McKay, his twin brother Paul and Liam Mandeville have all signed their first professional contracts with Rovers since the new season got underway.
